AACCA Course Answers

  1. How much does the AACCA course cost and for how long is it in effect?
The AACCA Cheerleading Risk Management Course (also known as the safety course) costs $75 and is good for 4 years from the date of course completion.
  2. How can I take the course?
You can find onsite courses at our Course Finder or take the online course at NFHSLearn.com. Both courses are for all levels of coaching from youth to college.
  3. I'm having problems with the online course. How can I get help on it?
The online course is hosted by NFHS Learn. We have no access to the information there other than once you complete a course. One of the reasons we chose that location as our hosting for the course is their staffed help desk. Please start with their "HELP" tab and contact them using the information provided there.
  4. How do I find out if my certification is still good?
You can get information about your current certification by using the "Coach Search" feature of this site. Simply find your listing by entering your last name at the time of your certification. If your name appears in the list, it will show the expiration date for your current certification. If your name does not appear, there may be a spelling error, you may not be using your previous last name, or your certification may have expired. Contact our office if you feel there is an error and we will research it for you.
  5. Can I print off my own certificate?
Yes you can! You can even download it as a PDF to keep for your files and print at a later date. Follow the steps outlined above to find your listing, then click "View Certificate" to download the Adobe Acrobat PDF version of your certificate.

Rules Answers

  1. Are the rules just for competitions or games? Do I have to follow them at practices also?
As stated in the rules themselves, the rules are for all practices, performances, games and competition. Performing prohibited skills can increase the chance of serious injury and can put the coach and school in an increased level of liability exposure.
  2. Can my school tell us we can't do extended stunts? Can they change the rules and make them more strict?
Yes, a school, district or state may add rules that are more restrictive than the national rules. This is true of other sports as well and is not uncommon. If the rationale given is because of the perceived risks of cheerleading, make sure your administration understands not only the true injury statistics nationally, but also your own safety record at your school.
  3. Do you have rules for youth recreational leagues?
There are several sets of youth rec league rules available through various youth organizations. Due to the wide range of ages, ability levels and focus of youth rec leagues across the country, AACCA does not have a required set of rules for youth rec. However, we have published a set of rules that can be used as a framework for teams without a set of league rules. That framework can be found at http://aacca.org/content.aspx?item=Safety/youth-rec-cheer-rules.xml
